Contemporary King & Queen

Bhartti Verma is inspired by Delhi and its urban landscape, and reflecting on the constant cacophony of a city that rarely takes a pause, Verma often imagines what a silent city would look like. Her paintings depict spaces with objects such as a crown, a daguerreotype camera, or a chair, creating conjunctions in time and space. They are devoid of people, though their presence remains palpable through pertinently placed objects, indicative of the artist’s acute sensitivity to the world around her.
