NISREEN MOOCHHALA

Born in Surat, Nisreen Moochhala completed her diploma in painting in 1957 and Mural painting in 1958 from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai.

The artist finds resonance in her work from the cultural, social and personal surroundings around her. So most of her works hold titles with certain familiarity with the surroundings such as Malhaar, Chai Stall at White House, Park, Tea Party and many more. Her unique work shows freshness and vibrancy in the color palettes chosen coupled with the added personal touch. The color palette ranges from monochromatic tones to a vibrant medley. In one of the works titled “Neighbours”the artist draws our attention to the world we live in. In a three-story building, a boy and a girl at two adjacent windows seem to be in love, while a snooping boy at a third window adds a touch of humour.

Her mixed media works have been displayed in multiple solo shows as well as group shows across the country. The artist has been a recipient of many awards such as Bombay Society Award in 1956, Bombay State exhibition in 1956 and Bombay state exhibition in 1957.

She lives and works out of Pune.
