SEEMA KOHLI


Born in 1960 in New Delhi, Seeema Kohli has participated in multiple international shows and exhibitions across the globe including Basel, Shanghai, Madrid and many more.

Seema Kohli’s creative repertoire is eclectic, encompassing a wide range of mediums ranging from painting, murals, experiential installation performances, films to installations, sculptures and each a unique expression of her style. She has over time brought a synergy of her unique sensibilities in her art. Kohli's works reveal a claiming of feminine subjectivities and an altered concept of feminine sexuality. Her works bring into focus a woman's physical attributes, her intellect, thoughts, dreams and realities. There is a celebration of beauty, sensuality and intimacy in her art. Her work captures in its entirety the perpetual change, order, strength and fragility, colors and rhythm, melody and exuberance of the elemental world. It talks about the creation, the cosmic journey, of the oneness of being and the final liberation in relation to the golden womb or hiranyagarbha.

The artist validates her work using multiple mediums such as acrylic, ink, pen, gouache on fibre, canvas, prints, and many more. She is a recipient of multiple awards such as a Gold medal at Florence Biennale 2009, the Y.F.L.O. Women Achievers Award, and the Lalit Kala Academy National Award for Women in 2008.

The artist lives and works from her studio in Delhi.
